A successful day for Team Auchinleck as a record 24 competitors represented McRobert's Tae Kwon Do School. Returning with a great haul of 14 medals including 2Golds, 6 Silver and 6 Bronze, Mr McRobert said " I'm absolutely delighted with not only the turn out but the effort put in by all 24 of my students. It was an amazing representation of our club and a great day for everyone, win or lose."

Bravo Jack Colville!

On Saturday 22nd April 2017, our very own Jack Colville headed for TAGB HQ in Bristol to sit his first degree black belt grading. The culmination of many years of dedication and hard work!
After a nervy wait for his big result, he got the call on Monday 24th from Mr McRobert to say "IT'S A PASS!"

We caught up with Jack to congratulate him and to find out just how it feels to reach the much coveted milestone...

Q&A

mcr.co.uk - Jack, from everyone at the club very well done to you. Absolutely brilliant news! You must be very proud of your achievement?

Jack - Thank you, yes; it feels great!

mcr.co.uk - For all the other students out there Jack, tell us, how long have you been studying Tae Kwon Do?

Jack - I've been doing TKD for 4 years now so it takes a while to reach this stage!

mcr.co.uk - Was there ever a moment where you thought you might not make it?

Jack - Definitely not! I always believed that I'd get there. At the end of the day, I've worked hard by going to extra classes. It was always my goal to be a black belt. Now I'm there, it feels amazing!

mcr.co.uk - How did you feel when you arrived at TAGB HQ in Bristol?

Jack - The TAGB HQ is nothing like you would expect. It just looks like an old house!

mcr.co.uk - (Laughs) What did it feel like when you got that call from Mr McRobert to say that you'd passed?

Jack - I was absolutely ecstatic when I got the news. I phoned everybody to tell them! (laughs).

mcr.co.uk - Any advice you'd like to give to all those young aspiring students out there?

Jack - My advice to you all is just to stick to it! Set yourself a goal and don't give up until you've achieved it.

mcr.co.uk - Thanks Jack and once again congratulations on your magnificent achievement.

Jack - Thank you!

BLACK BELT GRADING OCTOBER 2017

Congratulations Michael & Adeline!

On Saturday 14th October 2017, our very own Michael Wright and Adeline Collins made the long journey down to TAGB HQ in Bristol to sit their first degree black belt gradings.

We are delighted to announce that both passed! We caught up with both to find out just what it meant to them to reach this amazing milestone...

MICHAEL WRIGHT

mcr.co.uk - How long have you been doing TKD?

Michael -  Been doing Tkd for about 6 years.
mcr.co.uk - Is there a moment you thought that you might not make it to 1st degree and why?

Michael - Yes, I had moments I didn’t think I’d get it because I found the theory really tricky. I sometimes felt as though I’d never master Joon Gun!
mcr.co.uk - How did you feel when you arrived at TAGB HQ in Bristol?

Michael - It was a bit anti climatic in a way because I had built it up so much! I was proud to have made it that far and just really nervous for the actual grading.
mcr.co.uk - What did it feel like when you got the call to say you'd passed?

Michael - I was so relieved when I found out I had passed and I was totally over the moon. Mr Mcrobert actually thought he’d phoned the wrong person because I was so excited.
mcr.co.uk - Ha ha! Any advice for new or up and coming students?

Michael - Don’t give up! There were lots of times I got fed up or wanted to give training a miss but my dad told me to stick at it. It was the best advice because look where I am now.

ADELINE

mcr.co.uk - How long have you been doing TKD?
Adeline -  5 years this month!
mcr.co.uk - Is there a moment you thought that you might not make it to 1st degree and why?
Adeline - Yes, there was a point about 2 months before the grading when I genuinely thought I would never make it. I had a bad night at training ( couldn't do anything right ) and that was my breaking point.  I knew when I achieved my  black belt I wanted to feel worthy of wearing it and that night I didn't feel like it was going to happen.
mcr.co.uk - How did you feel when you arrived at TAGB HQ in Bristol?
Adeline - TAGB headquarters was surreal! I had been awake since 5am. I had read through my theory and gone through my patterns lightly before I went for breakfast .  It's hard to explain the feelings..I was nervous, excited and terrified all at the same time! Ha ha! I knew I had worked for it, I just needed to keep it together.
mcr.co.uk - What did it feel like when you got the call to say you'd passed?
Adeline -  I took the Monday off, cleaned my house top to bottom and just waited for the call. When eventually the call came through from Mr McRobert, I was delighted and so relieved! Ha ha!
mcr.co.uk - Any advice for new or up and coming students?
Adeline - It becomes intense in the last few months/weeks running up to the grading. For us "mature" students , we are working, raising children, running a house. At the same time we're trying to do theory and train as much as possible. It's not easy! My advice is; Never give up! If it was easy everyone would be a black belt. It is worth it!

Outstanding team effort at Scottish Closed Champs 2017!

Saturday 29th April will live long in the memory of the students of Team Auchinleck who participated at Wishaw Sports Centre.

From fifteen competitors, the team managed a whopping 13 medals. 6 Gold, 6 Sliver and 1 Bronze.

That fantastic haul earned the club a fourth place finish in the competitions overall medals tally by team.

A delighted Mr McRobert put the achievement into perspective...

"A fourth place finish is a phenomenal achievement for this local community club. 27 clubs entered the competition. The top three clubs are all large city clubs from Glasgow and Edinburgh. I am a very proud instructor tonight!"

Shannon Collins is a 1st Degree Black Belt!

On Saturday 15th October 2016, our very own Shannon Collins headed for TAGB HQ in Bristol to sit her first degree black belt grading. The culmination of many years of dedication and hard work!

After a nervy wait for the big result, Shannon got the call on Monday 17th from Mr McRobert... PASS!

We caught up with Shannon to congratulate her and to find out just how that feels...

Q&A

mcr.co.uk - From everyone at the club Shannon, very well done. Absolutely brilliant news! You must be so proud?

Shannon - Thank you, yes; it feels so good!

mcr.co.uk - For all the other students out there Shannon, tell us, how long have you been studying Tae Kwon Do?

Shannon - I've been doing TKD for over 5 years now so it's a lot of work!

mcr.co.uk - Was there ever a moment where you thought to yourself "Hey, I might not make it here!"

Shannon - Definitely! It gets hard at blue belt. The gradings get harder and further apart. Also at black stripe. When you finish your last colour belt grading, you know that the expectation is now on you! It's a lot of pressure but I managed to handle it and get through!

mcr.co.uk - How did you feel when you arrived at TAGB HQ in Bristol?

Shannon - I was so nervous and excited! It was kind of surreal really.

mcr.co.uk - What did it feel like when you got that call from Mr McRobert to say that you'd passed?

Shannon - I had been sleeping! (laughs)

mcr.co.uk - Probably exhausted after all the pressure and studying!

Shannon - It just felt great though. Unbelievable.

mcr.co.uk - Thank you Shannon for sharing the experience, there are so many students out there who hope to join you someday! Any advice you'd like to give to them?

Shannon - I guess I'd say 'Just keep going!' It gets better all the time. Even when you do feel that it's not going well, just remember the 3rd Tenet and PERSEVERE!

mcr.co.uk - Thanks Shannon and congratulations on your magnificent achievement.

Shannon - Thank you!
